Popular Weekend Events in Kitakyushu City (July Updated)

The Gion Festival, with a history of over 400 years, is celebrated by devotees of Kasuga Shrine, Okada Shrine, and Ichinomiya Shrine. Ornately decorated floats parade through the Kurosaki area. Accompanied by Gion music played with drums and conch shells, the floats are carried with great effort, a scene sometimes referred to as "battle floats." The "rotating parade," where floats are violently pulled and spun, is an even more spectacular sight.

An exhibition will be held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Watase Seizo, an artist associated with Kitakyushu and honorary director of the Manga Museum. Since his debut in 1974, Watase has continued to draw colorful worlds. The exhibition will feature all 24 of his recently completed “Tokyo Koyomi” and “Kyo Koyomi,” which depict long-distance romances set in Tokyo and Kyoto, as well as “Heart Cocktail” and rare manga manuscripts and materials from his pre “Heart Cocktail” nonsense manga days. The "Minami Festival" was held as the "Kokura Minami Ward Folk Song Evening" to commemorate the birth of Kokura Minami Ward in 1974, and was renamed "Minami Festival" on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Kokura Minami Ward in 1994. Various events such as the Minami Ward Festival Village and general dances are held. At the finale, about 700 fireworks are launched and large flowers light up the night sky of Kokura.

The concert in Japan will be an important stop on this tour, and is expected to be held in major cities such as Osaka and Nagoya.

The 38th "Wasshoi Million Summer Festival" will be held on September 20 (Saturday) and September 21 (Sunday), and unlike the usual dates, it will be held mainly in Kokura Castle, Katsuyama Park and Kokura Kita Ward. This year's theme is "Change for the Future - Let's create a better future for towns and festivals together!

The fantastic collaboration of "Anime Songs x Fireworks" has arrived in Kitakyushu! This event features classic anime songs beloved by all ages. Kitakyushu Mikuni World Stadium, located near JR Kokura Station, will host the event, with over 10,000 fireworks illuminating the night sky, accompanied by famous anime images and songs. This visual, auditory, and tactile experience seamlessly blends the opening and ending credits and theme songs of classic anime from the Showa and Heisei eras with a world-class, real-time fireworks display, igniting memories against the backdrop of the night sky. Large screens will be installed throughout the venue to maximize the visual and sound effects. As the world of anime unfolds before the audience, live performances by popular anime singers and anime DJ sets on stage will immerse the audience in the excitement. It will be an immersive experience, as if you were transported right into the world of anime. This performance is a special event commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Kitakyushu Pop Festival (KPF), Kyushu's largest anime festival.

The 2025 Kitakyushu Autumn Bread Festival will be held on the large lawn of Katsuyama Park over the weekend of Saturday, October 18th and Sunday, October 19th, 2025. This is one of Kitakyushu's largest outdoor bread events, bringing together approximately 60 bread and pastry shops from all over Japan! You can enjoy popular bakeries from Fukuoka, local bread from all over Japan, and even milk bread from Nagano Prefecture. The Kokura Castle Park Market will also be held concurrently.

The Kujukai Fireworks Festival in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, adds vibrant colors to Dobay Bay in the autumn. This popular event features 5,000 fireworks launched over 40 minutes, attracting over 270,000 visitors annually. In keeping with Wakamatsu City's motto of "revitalizing the city through jazz," the fireworks display is set to the rhythm of jazz, creating a vibrant atmosphere of light and sound.

The 2025 Kitakyushu Airport Festival takes place on Sunday, October 26th, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The annual festival atmosphere has arrived, and with it, Sky Gate Kitakyushu Airport! From popular annual stage events to airport food and original aviation merchandise sales, there's plenty to enjoy. There will also be hands-on events offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the airport, areas that are usually off-limits, making this the perfect "Sky Day"!
