Bristol Parent Carer Forum hosts coffee mornings from schools for parent carers of children and young adults that have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). There is no need to book but if you can, that is helpful. Please come along for a chat with our volunteers and other families who “get it”. We are happy to talk through any problems or issues you are facing over a nice cup of tea (or coffee!) and you can find out more information on what support is available locally for your child or a child you care for. If you need additional support to access this coffee morning such as support with English or other adjustments, please let us know. An important role of the Parent Carer Forum is to hear about the experiences of parent carers in Bristol. We would like to hear from you about your experiences with SEND services so that we can be sure that your voice is heard and that we can shape the future of SEND services together. Join Steve England on an autumn Forage half-day workshop within the beautiful Stoke Park Estate, learning, identifying, foraging and sampling the vast array of edible foods available within and around the park. Learn how to identify wild foods in the grasslands, woodland and hedgerows, and discover the world of edibles available at this time of year. Led by award-winning horticulturalist & conservationist, Steve England, this fun and informative course is a rare chance to discover the edibles on offer, see the poisonous look-alikes, and learn the importance of conservation for your future foraging adventures. Booking essential and very limited places for this one-off private course. Over 14's. We will meet outside the Vench Adventure Playground, Romney Avenue. Please arrive 5 minutes before set off time so we can get on the way promptly! FAQs Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? Yes - individuals attending should be over 14, this is an event designed for adults to attend and isn't focused on activities for children. Foraging requires good understanding of what you are looking at, and unless properly supervised, children may pick plants and eat them if they see us adults doing it too, without knowledge of what they are doing, which can be super dangerous! What can I bring into the event? Feel free to bring drinks, snacks, your camera, and please wear the appropriate clothing and footwear for half a day in the outdoors! Cancellation/Postponing due to Poor Weather SE Outdoor Learning events take place outdoors, and therefore unfortunately we may need to be postponed or cancelled in the days leading up to the event if it seems that the weather will be too poor for it to be run safely. We will always aim to confirm cancellation of the event 24 - 48 hours in advance (though on very rare occassions, sudden weather changes may mean its closer than this). This is a great opportunity to find out about the magical and fascinating world of mushrooms. We will look at the identification and habitats of species we find along the way, how they work and why they make a woodland healthy, along with some vital environmental factors and considerations that both new and seasoned mushroom enthusiasts need to know. We will aim to identify a selection of species for making ink and fire lighting, learn the edible and toxic species, and maybe even find a tasty fungi treat together in the woods. We will also learn some of the bizarre and unusual behaviours of fungi, and learn what makes fungi some of the most fascinating, beautiful and strange organisms to occupy our natural world. Suitable for approximate ages 14+. Approximately a 2 mile walk on uneven ground. We will be meeting at the Vench Adventure Playground, Romney Avenue, Lockleaze. Dress accordingly to the weather and wear sturdy footwear. You do not need to bring a copy of your ticket with you. IMPORTANT NOTES - Please read before booking: This is not specifically a mushroom foraging course i.e. we will not be solely focused only on edible mushrooms. Although we try our best to choose the best weeks in the year to run these events where the fungi will be out in force, we are unable to predict the weather and exact dates that nature will "do its thing". Mushroom season is tricky, with the window adjusting to the climate/weather, and can vary year on year, with things changing dramatically from one week to the next. THEREFORE if we get to date that the event is to run, and we don't believe a good quality mushroom course is possible to run, THIS EVENT WILL GO AHEAD BUT BE RUN AS AN AUTUMNAL WILD FOOD AND PRACTICAL PLANTS COURSE. Please be aware of this before booking - you will be made aware of any changes in the 48 hours prior to the event so you know what to expect. Disability Inclusion Training is designed to increase confidence, competence, and knowledge to create inclusive environments, and deliver fun and inclusive activities for all abilities and needs. The training explores both disability-focused delivery and being inclusive of disabled people within your existing sport sessions. What will I learn? Disability Inclusion Training covers: The importance of disability inclusivity through a sport and physical activity lens Barriers and challenges for disabled people in accessing traditionally provided sport and physical activity Introduction to various disabilities, impairment groups and long-term health conditions – including physical disabilities; learning disabilities and difficulties; visual impairments; hearing impairments and other non-visible disabilities Practical skills, tools and ideas to adapt and develop inclusive practice in your own environment What can I expect? This Disability Inclusion Training will be run in person and will include: Information sharing from tutors - utilising a powerpoint presentation Open questions to the group - questions will be asked to the group, and you will be invited to share when and how you feel comfortable (this might include writing answers down, sharing to the room, or choosing not to share) Discussion with peers - this will include small group discussions, and we ask participants to get involved in discussions as they feel comfortable. Join local historian Steve England as he guides us around the history of Stoke Park at this spooky time of year - come and find out about the unexplained goings on that have happened over the years and take a led wander through the woods at night, learning all about the history and spooky goings on throughout the history of the estate. Steve will guide this history walk where he will share tales from the institution and the legend of the lady on the horse plus tell the more gruesome history of the estate and ghostly sightings over the years. P lease note this event will not enter the privately owned Dower House. This event is limited to 15yrs and over, guests must be fit enough to walk the woods and slopes at night, please wear very sturdy footwear , appropriate clothing and bring a torch.
