Join beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author and Caldecott Medalist Brian Selznick for an evening discussing his YA novel, Run Away With Me . ABOUT THE LIVE EVENT Registration via Eventbrite is required. All tickets include one (1) copy of Run Away With Me. ABOUT THE BOOK From #1 New York Times bestselling author/illustrator Brian Selznick, a profoundly romantic YA novel about two boys finding each other and falling in love over one summer in Rome. "I'm going to call you Danny. What are you going to name me?" "Angelo." Danny is spending his sixteenth summer in Rome. As his mother spends the day at work in a mysterious museum, he wanders the ancient sites and streets. Soon after his arrival, he encounters a shadow... who becomes a voice... who becomes a boy his age. Angelo. Soon Danny and Angelo are spending as much time as they can together, piecing together stories of the city while only gradually letting their own histories be shared. Attraction leads to affection, and affection leads to both an intimate closeness and a profound fear of what happens next. Danny has never really had a home, or known the love of another boy. Angelo seems to have more experience... but he also has secrets just out of Danny’s reach. Run Away With Me is a stunning creation, weaving words and illustration to tell the story of a transformative love over the course of one Roman summer. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Brian Selznick’s books have sold millions of copies, garnered countless awards worldwide, and been translated into more than 35 languages. He broke open the novel form with his innovative and genre-defying thematic trilogy, beginning with the Caldecott Medal-winning #1 New York Times bestseller The Invention of Hugo Cabret , adapted into Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning movie Hugo . He followed that with the #1 New York Times bestseller, Wonderstruck , adapted into the eponymous movie by celebrated filmmaker Todd Haynes, with a screenplay by Selznick, and the New York Times bestseller, The Marvels . Selznick’s two most recent books for young people, Baby Monkey, Private Eye , an ALA Notable Book co-written with his husband David Serlin, and Kaleidoscope , a New York Times Notable Children’s Book of 2021, were both New York Times bestsellers as well. He also illustrated the 20th anniversary edition covers of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. Selznick and Serlin divide their time between Brooklyn, New York and La Jolla, California. Exodus guitarist and main songwriter Gary Holt (also member of Slayer from 2011 to 2019) visits Changing Hands Tempe to sign copies of his memoir. ABOUT THE LIVE EVENT Registration is required. All tickets are general admission and include one (1) signed copy of A Fabulous Disaster . This is a meet-and-greet booksigning only. There will be no seated presentation. Up to three (3) items may be signed. ABOUT THE BOOK From prolific metal guitarist and songwriter for Exodus (and formerly Slayer) Gary Holt comes a deeply personal memoir of his "destruction-laden" life, along with a firsthand account of the genesis of the Thrash Metal scene, from its origins in the Bay Area to its world domination. As the guitarist and primary songwriter of Exodus and one of the originators of heavy metal, Gary Holt watched as his peers--Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax--soared to superstardom. As his fellow artists amassed millions of fans and record sales, Exodus' albums received critical recognition and inspired generations of listeners--but struggled to reach the same heights of success, as the band was plagued by years of bad management, bad luck, and bad decisions. A Fabulous Disaster follows our narrator through the highest of highs and lowest of lows as he and his bandmates juggle major label contracts, MTV-sponsored tours and festivals, growing addictions to alcohol and meth, and the loss of key founding members. Ultimately, after the tragic death of one of his closest friends and former bandmates--Holt decides to save himself. Newly sober and determined to resurrect his career, he commits himself to Exodus, pushing the band to new heights. An "unadulterated odyssey through decades of insanity," punctuated by Holt's unique insight and knack for storytelling, A Fabulous Disaster is a thrill ride from start to finish. His story proves that redemption--even from the pits of rock 'n' roll excess--is always possible. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Gary Holt is the guitarist and main songwriter for the heavy metal band Exodus and was a member of Slayer from 2011 to 2019. He's based in the Bay Area, California. Award-winning community organizer Cristina Jiménez visits Changing Hands Tempe to share her inspiring memoir, discussing her journey from undocumented newcomer to leader in a powerful immigrant youth movement. In conversation with former Senator Raquel Terán. ABOUT THE LIVE EVENT Registration via Eventbrite is required. All tickets are general admission and include one (1) copy of Dreaming of Home . ABOUT THE BOOK A MacArthur "Genius" shares her inspiring story, from undocumented newcomer to leader in a powerful immigrant youth movement. Dreaming of Home is a coming-of-age story for both a young woman finding her true self and a social movement of immigrant youth trailblazers who inspired the world and changed the lives of millions. Cristina Jiménez's family fought to stay afloat as Ecuador fell into a political and economic crisis. When she was thirteen, her family came to the US seeking a better life, landing in an overcrowded one-bedroom apartment in Queens, New York. She lived in fear of deportation and ashamed of being undocumented, but eventually, Cristina discovered she was not alone. She made it into college when students and advocates won a change in the law, allowing undocumented students to access higher education. She was proud to be the first one in her family to go to college, but she felt out of place until she met professors and student activists who opened a new world where she found her calling within a community of social justice organizers. With deep candor and humor, Cristina shows us what it's like to grow up undocumented and the reality that being a "good" immigrant doesn't shield you from systemic racism, danger--or even the confusion of falling in love. She invites us to acknowledge the America that never was and to imagine the America that could be when everyday people come together, build power, and fight for change, even when the world around us seems to be crumbling. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Cristina Jiménez is an award-winning community organizer and a leading voice in movements for social justice. She is Co-Founder and former Executive Director of United We Dream, the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the country. A Distinguished Lecturer at the City University of New York, Jimenez received a 2017 MacArthur Fellowship and a spot on the 2018 TIME 100 Most Influential People List. She came to the U.S from Ecuador in 1998 and grew up undocumented in Queens, N.Y. ABOUT THE MODERATOR Raquel Terán was born in Arizona and grew up on the border between the U.S. and Mexico. She is a mom, a wife, and a proud graduate of Arizona State University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She has spent her life building power in the Latino community. As a leader in the movement to fight back against racist bills like Arizona's SB 1070 and to oust Sheriff Joe Arpaio for terrorizing communities across Arizona, Raquel was at the forefront demonstrating what our community can accomplish when we work together. It wasn’t long before Raquel traded her megaphone for a microphone: she served in the Arizona State House and Senate, where she fought every day to make it easier to provide for our families by investing in our schools, making our neighborhoods safe, and bringing good jobs back to Arizonans. Then, as the Chair of the Arizona Democratic Party, she brought together a broad coalition to elect a Democratic U.S. Senator, Governor, Attorney General, and Secretary of State in Arizona for the first time in decades. Now, Raquel leads Aquí Estamos PAC to continue her life’s work of building power and serving her community. Information Source: Changing Hands Bookstore | eventbrite

New York Times bestselling author Ashley Poston ( A Novel Love Story , The Seven Year Slip , and The Dead Romantics ) discusses her latest in conversation with USA Today bestselling author Jen DeLuca (the Well Met series). ABOUT THE LIVE EVENT Registration via Eventbrite is required. All tickets are general admission and include one (1) copy of Sounds Like Love . ABOUT THE BOOK A hitmaking songwriter and a bitter musician share a startling and inexplicable connection that they'll do anything to shake, in the next sparkling, magical book from Ashley Poston. Joni Lark has a secret. She's one of the most coveted songwriters in LA, and yet she can't write. There's an emptiness inside her, and nothing seems to fill it. When she returns to her hometown of Vienna Shores, North Carolina, she hopes that the sand, the surf, and the concerts at The Revelry, her family's music venue, will spark inspiration. But when Joni gets there, nothing is how she left it. Her best friend is hiding something, her mother's memories are fading fast, and The Revelry is closing. How can Joni write when her world is leaving her behind? Until she hears it. A melody in her head, lyric-less and half-formed, and an alluring and addictive voice to go with it--belonging, apparently, to a wry musician with an emptiness of his own. Surely, he's a figment of Joni's overworked imagination. Then a very real man shows up in Vienna Shores. He's arrogant and guarded--nothing like the sweet, funny voice in Joni's head--and he has a plan for breaking their inconvenient telepathic connection: finish the song haunting them both and hope they don't risk their hearts--or their secrets--in the process. Because that melody, the one drawing them together . . . what if it's there for a reason? ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ashley Poston is the New York Times bestselling author of A Novel Love Story , The Seven Year Slip , and The Dead Romantics. A native of South Carolina, she lives in a small gray house with her sassy cat and too many books. You can find her on the internet, somewhere, watching cat videos and reading fan fiction. ABOUT THE MODERATOR Jen DeLuca is the USA Today bestselling author of the Well Met series, which was inspired by her time volunteering as a pub wench with her local Renaissance Faire. She loves Publix chicken tender subs, cold brew coffee, and the Oxford comma. Jen lives in the Arizona desert with her husband, their rescue dog, and almost too many cats.
