Are you a hands-on learner? One of the best ways to learn about plants, botany, and plant parts is through drawing them! Whether you are a buddy botanist working on your plant identification skills or an artist who enjoys bringing some science to your craft, this course is for you. No skill is required. Park Description: The habitat of Aiken Canyon Preserve is mixed grassland and woodland. Lower areas of the park feature pinyons and junipers and host birds such as the Juniper Titmouse and Spotted Towhee (pictured). Upper elevations give way to ponderosas and douglas-firs where nuthatches and woodpeckers abound. We will also likely see hummingbirds, flycatchers, vireos, jays, chickadees, warblers, tanagers, and grosbeaks. Equal attention will be given to the native plant species that form these ecosystems. Park Description: North Cheyenne Cañon Park is a city-owned park with over 1,600 acres. The park has two visitor's centers and has many many miles of trails. Helen Hunt Falls sits near the top of the park and water from Cheyenne creek flows through the canyon. Imposing walls form either side of the canyon where sandstone and shale is marked by granite outcrops and peaks. Diverse and abundant plant life thrives in these varying ecosystems. 2025 Colorado Springs Garden Tour June 28 & 29 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM In-person event at Colorado Springs Saturday or Sunday tickets are good both days! Featuring eight private gardens in the Briargate and Old Farm neighborhoods plus the Old Farm Community Garden. The gardens include a mini homestead with a food forest, raised beds, berry and fruit plants; native/xeric/ waterwise landscapes, artistic statuary and artwork, permaculture, rainwater harvesting, beekeeping, chickens and greenhouses. Colorado Master Gardeners will be located in each garden answering your questions about the plants you see there as well as providing information about good gardening practices.
