Arts
Nikki Renee Anderson, an artist based in Chicago, will be sharing her captivating work in an upcoming lecture titled "Nikki Renee Anderson — ART NOW!" The event, taking place on September 13, 2023, at the Film Row Cinema in Chicago, is open to visitors free of charge. Anderson's thought-provoking sculptures delve into cultural stereotypes surrounding beauty, desire, and femininity. Drawing inspiration from the female body as well as sweet treats, fruits, and flowers, her fantasy objects challenge conventional definitions and ignite the imagination. During her lecture, Anderson will discuss the evolution of her sculptures and installations over the past two decades, with a particular focus on her most recent body of work, initiated in 2020. This latest collection explores the garden as a symbolic space for growth, renewal, and transformation. Through biomorphic and whimsical plant forms, Anderson's sculptures represent human connections and the cycles of life. A highly regarded artist, Anderson has exhibited extensively at prestigious venues such as the Chicago Cultural Center, Hyde Park Art Center, and the International Museum of Ceramics in Italy. Her work has garnered recognition from numerous publications including the New York Times, Sculpture Magazine, and American Craft Magazine. With an MFA from Stony Brook University and a BFA from Drake University, Anderson also serves as an Assistant Professor in the Art and Design Department at Harper College.
