Wilder Gardens Workshop: Introduction to Wildlife Gardening | Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve - Kent Wildlife Trust

Wilder Gardens Workshop: Introduction to Wildlife Gardening | Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve - Kent Wildlife Trust

May 19, 2026 (UTC+1)
Sevenoaks
Cultural Experiences
Get started creating a garden with nature at its heart in this early-summer themed gardening workshop in Sevenoaks. New to gardening or keen to refresh or build on your skills? This workshop introduces how to create a garden that is both beautiful and provides space for nature. We'll start in our new visitor centre, where our Wilder Gardens team will talk us through the basics of creating a wildlife-friendly garden, including: The benefits of a wildlife-friendly garden. What plants to choose and how to maintain them with nature in mind. Creating wildlife habitats in your outside space. Incorporating water into your garden. What to do with your lawn/mini-meadow. Naturally managing 'pests' in the garden. Reducing waste in your garden. Our Nature Parks & Gardens Development Officer will then take us out into our newly renovated garden to demonstrate the principles we've discussed in action and provide a tour of the garden's seasonal highlights. This will be followed by a hands-on session in the garden, such as sowing seeds and making a bug hotel. You'll also have time after the workshop to explore the gardens at your leisure, as well as the wider reserve. The first part of the workshop will take place indoors, before we head outside for the tour and activity. Please dress appropriately for both, and remember we'll be doing some planting - you may like to bring a pair of gardening gloves if you have them, or let us know if you're a complete beginner and would like to borrow a pair. We'll go ahead in most weathers, but may need to postpone in the case of a severe forecast. Parking charges apply in the car park, card/app payments only. To register for free parking for the duration of this workshop, please email your registration number, name and the event you have booked to parkingcharges@kentwildlife.org.uk at least 72 hours before the event. Cultural Experiences
Meet Kent Wildlife Trust's experienced reserve wardens for a hands-on workshop identifying moths found around Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve. Area Wardens Rosemary and Rob love seeing what moths are flying around at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve! This is a wonderful opportunity for you to join them as they unload their traps in the morning and identify the species that have been caught the previous evening. You’ll learn all about the various trapping methods used to capture moths and how you can trap at home. With field guides provided, you will work your way through the moth trap, practicing and developing your identification skills as you go. We hope to catch species such as buff tip, iron prominent, jersey tiger and poplar hawkmoths. If you’re a keen photographer, this experience also provides an excellent opportunity to take photos of the moths. Toilet facilities are available in the Visitor Centre. A hot drink will be provided, and the café will be open for you to make additional purchase should you wish. Our reserves team are used to working outdoors in all weathers, so we aim to go ahead with these experiences wherever possible. On occasion the warden may decide conditions are extreme enough to cancel the planned date, either because they'll be unable to deliver the event to a high enough quality or because it is unsafe to go ahead. If this is the case you will be offered an alternative date or refund. Unfortunately, we cannot refund tickets if the event takes place but you choose not to attend. Please give us 30 days notice wherever possible if you are no longer able to attend. The small group sizes on these experiences mean cancellations have a large impact on the viability of the event, and it can be difficult to fill places at short notice or after an event has initially reached capacity. Thank you. Kent Wildlife Trust members have exclusive early access to tickets for this event, from Wednesday 4 until Tuesday 10 March. Members will receive a code by email to unlock tickets. Tickets will be available for general sale from Wednesday 11 March. Photo credit: Rosemary Holden Information Source: Kent Wildlife Trust - Education, Training & Events | eventbrite
