Thousands of people will gather at Ala Moana Beach Park for Hawaii's True Lantern Festival, a moving tradition dedicated to remembering loved ones who have passed away. Rooted in Buddhist practices, the festival invites people of all backgrounds to float lanterns into the ocean as a symbol of remembrance, peace, and hope. It's a breathtaking sight to see thousands of shining lanterns float across the water, each flickering a message of love, loss, and remembrance into the vastness of the ocean. Beyond personal remembrance, this event fosters unity and encourages community reflection and healing. Remember, reflect, and find inner peace amidst the beauty of the lanterns at the 27th annual Floating Lantern Ceremony.

The Volcano Arts Center (VAC), located on the Kilauea volcano, is dedicated to the promotion and perpetuation of arts and culture. The vibrant location inspires a passion to share authentic Hula Kahiko performances and other hula arts and traditions. VAC, with support from the Hawaii Tourism Authority's Kukulu Ola program, is proud to announce free events to promote and perpetuate Native Hawaiian arts and culture. On the second Saturday of each month, join the Volcano Arts Center for a free, live hula performance. Performances are presented in an authentic outdoor setting, rain or shine, without electronic amplification. The Volcano Arts Center is a nonprofit arts and educational organization founded in 1974 to promote, develop, and perpetuate the artistic and cultural heritage of the Hawaiian people and environment through visual, literary, and performing arts events.

Merry Monarchy Day was established to commemorate King David Laamea Kalakaua, known as the "Joyful Monarch" for his passionate and life-loving nature. Kalakaua was elected King of Hawaii in 1874 and reigned until his death in 1891. Each year, Merry Monarchy Day continues the traditions established by the King, featuring a week-long celebration of music, crafts, arts, exhibitions, and hula dance competitions. During the festival, Hilo, Hawaii, is filled with the grandeur, pride, and spirit of a Silver Jubilee celebration.
