Meet and Greet with your favorite mermaid, create an enchanting themed art project, and sing a few of your favorite under the sea songs! Supplies and entertainment are included in the ticket price. During the summer of 2024, the arts and cultural sector was thrown a major curveball: All of the state art grant funding was vetoed by the governor. In this presentation, Dr. Ward will discuss how he navigated this challenging time - both politically and practically - as he helped secure support funding from local philanthropists. He will outline some strategies he employed and will review how arts and culture experiences shape the quality of life in our Florida communities. Dr. Daryl Ward is the Executive Director of the Polk Arts & Cultural Alliance (PACA). He served as a public school educator, retiring after thirty-two years. His last tenure was as the principal of a visual and performing arts high school in Lakeland. He has a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Florida with an undergraduate degree in Creative Writing from Florida State University. He has been the Executive Director of PACA for just over three years, working to advocate on behalf of local artists and local arts and cultural organizations.
