The Gdańsk Shakespeare Festival | Gdansk
Celebration
The festival has been held regularly since 1997, taking place from late July to early August each year, but its origins can be traced back to 1993 when the Gdansk Shakespeare Days were initiated by the Gdansk Theatre Foundation. Since 2008, the festival has been jointly organized by the Gdansk Shakespeare Festival and the Gdansk Theatre Foundation, and has invited more than two hundred theatre companies from Poland and abroad to participate. The event also includes the prestigious National Competition for Best Shakespearean Plays, with the Kim Jorik Award as the main prize. ShakespeareOFF, a branch of the Shakespeare Festival, brings together alternative and fringe performances inspired by Shakespeare's works from Poland and other countries.
