During this period, Carter explored various artistic disciplines, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, tapestry design, exhibition design, and environmental works. He also contributed significantly to the transformation of the Holy Cross Power House into the Aspen Center for Visual Arts, which later became the esteemed Aspen Art Museum, alongside two other Aspen artists.
