Buddha Rashmi Vesak Festival | Mahakanda
Celebration
Vesak Day is the day when Buddha was born, attained enlightenment, and passed away in Buddhist culture, usually around the 15th day of the fourth lunar month. Almost all places that are greatly influenced by Buddhism celebrate this festival, such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, etc.
In Sri Lanka, believers will go to the temple on this day to hold a "Buddha Bathing" ceremony, hang prayer flags, recite scriptures, and seek blessings. Every household in Sri Lanka will hang lanterns, and Sri Lankans will also make lanterns by themselves, and there will be lantern viewing activities at night. Beira Lake and Gangarama Temple in Colombo are relatively concentrated places for viewing lanterns, which are very lively.
