Avan Jogia signs Autopsy (of an Ex-Teen Heartthrob) | Book Soup
Feb 18, 2025 (UTC-8)ENDED
West Hollywood
Writer, director, and actor Avan Jogia delivers a bright and acidic poetry collection on fame, rage, love, and sadness. A biting postmortem of the modern age, for fans of Lana Del Rey and Atticus. Avan Jogia grew up as a teen idol. He stumbled into the spotlight during the birth of the internet, the early days of Instagram and Twitter, before everyone online was a star. He spent his time in that spotlight writing, observing the cult of celebrity, the hilarity, the absurdity, and sometimes sinister side of being idolized before you've even had the chance to decide for yourself who you are. Now, in his most revealing and honest work to date, he has assembled a book of poems as an act of self-dissection. Part boozy lovesick rage and part personal reflection on the nature of fame, Autopsy (of an Ex-Teen Heartthrob) is a sharp, tantalizing collection of poems examining Avan's relationship with ego, idolatry, love as an act of worship, rage as an act of prayer, and sadness as confession. Through vivid imagery (and sometimes startling honesty) Avan cuts himself open and observes the false gods he has worshipped, the ways he has sinned, and exhumes a version of himself that looks like someone we all know: a person searching for the means to cure pain, mend the wounds of insecurity, and satiate cravings for love. THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT. An event ticket must be purchased from Book Soup to join the signing line. You will receive your copy of Autopsy (of an Ex-Teen Heartthrob) at check-in.

What to do When You Kill Your Co-Star | The Butterfly Club
Feb 24, 2025 (UTC+10)ENDED
Carson
A financially and creatively bankrupt acting troupes’ production of Romeo and Juliet goes horribly wrong when their Romeo dies three acts early. In order to save their troupe from jail, or worse, being exiled from the theatre, the troupe must lie, scheme, and “yes, and” their way into the cover up of the century. FAQs What time should I get there? At least 30 minutes before the show. Our performances start bang on time and it takes a hot second to welcome you into the building. Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? The Butterfly Club is a licensed venue. Accordingly, patrons under 18 are only allowed on premises in the company of a parent or legal guardian. What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event? We strongly encourage using public transport. The Butterfly Club is a short stroll from Flinders Street station and Melbourne Central, and an even shorter stroll from any tram that travels through Swanston or Collins Streets (get off at Town Hall). How can I contact the venue with any questions? Please call The Butterfly Club on 03 9663 8107 or reply to your email confirmation. What's the refund policy? All sales are final: exceptions are made in extraordinary circumstances at the Club's sole discretion. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No. Our team have a record of all attendees updated in real time and will be able to let you in whether you bring a printed copy of your ticket or not. Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? Yes. It happens all the time. It's totally fine.

Patrice: The Movie by Ted Passon (USA, 2024, 101 minutes) preceded by David Block’s “How Sweet the Sound”A feature documentary romantic comedy from award-winning filmmaker, Ted Passon, about the next phase of marriage equality – disability. Patrice has finally found the love of her life, Garry, who is also disabled. They want nothing more than to get married, but if they do - or even if they just move in together - the government benefits they need to survive would be cut. Despite the scrutiny they’re under, they decide to plan a commitment ceremony that could risk their entire future. Patrice’s present-day battles are informed by her past. The film interweaves vérité scenes with recreated scenes from her past life imbued with her art and her uniquely tragicomic joie de vivre - Patrice designed the sets and co-wrote the scripts. Starring a cast of children, with Patrice as the only adult playing herself at every age, we see the struggles Patrice endured to get the house, the job, and the life that she’s now fighting to keep. He created and directed the critically acclaimed docuseries Philly D.A., along with co-director Yoni Brook and producer Nicole Salazar.
