Unleash your creative side to master the art of watercolour and paint a rock star animal portrait. You will learn how to plan a portrait and how to use, mix and control watercolour paints. Students will take home a finished piece ready to frame plus a watercolour card to paint on. Dave Cryer of Penrith Writers, will lead an evening of poetry with special guest Katie Hale, author of The Edge of Solitude and My Name is Monster. Katie's debut poetry collection White Ghosts has been described as 'unflinching, vulnerable, multilayered' and she is now a firmly established star in the constellation of Cumbria creatives and a shining light in the wider writing universe. The evening will have two sections from Katie, punctuated by 12 x 3min Open Mic slots and a final quickfire round of 60-second poems from the audience. The Hedgehog Bookshop will be selling Katie's books at the end for anyone who would like a signed copy - or copies! Create your own animal mixed media portraits with a personal touch! On canvases, participants will use a transfer technique to draw an animal portrait of their choice. They will use mixed media collage, text and writing to create a personal textured surface, focusing on positive affirmations and personal power, before adding a layer of paint to pull the work together.
