Charcoal Gallery presents an extraordinary evening of spoken word featuring Marigold Lately and Oliver Lewis on December 17, 2023. Following a highly successful event earlier this year, Marigold and Oliver are returning to Charcoal Gallery in Hawarden to conclude the year with a captivating "unlikely duo" double bill of spoken word, heart, poetry, and dark comedy.
Marigold Lately, a remarkable performer, emerged onto the scene in the Autumn of 2022 after patiently honing her craft for over 50 years. With nearly 100 appearances at comedy and spoken word events throughout the North West under her belt, Marigold captivates audiences with her sorrowful yet snarling delivery of surreal tales and comic commentary. She fearlessly straddles genres, leaving no room for fence-sitting. Recently, Marigold showcased her talent in a sold-out one-woman show in Liverpool, receiving rave reviews for her dark comedic satire and thought-provoking social and political commentary.
Oliver Lewis, acclaimed author of "Celestial Angels" and "Winter Letters and Wisp Thin Skin," has been mesmerizing audiences in 2023 with his powerful performance of "Wisp Thin Skin." In this captivating piece, he explores themes of education as a business, rampant bigotry, and the struggle against heteronormativity. Lewis's poetic journey also features Henry VIII transforming into a prolific drag queen, an enchanting dancer's stage growing legs, and an anxiety-ridden man being pursued by a deer. Additionally, Lewis will be releasing a long poem titled "Fledglings" in December, which celebrates the transformative power of friendship, writing, and creativity.
Both performances promise to be astounding, with adult themes and language adding to the depth and impact of the evening. Remember, admission is free, so mark your calendars and join us at Charcoal Gallery for this unforgettable night of spoken word on December 17, 2023.
