The 2026 Paris Autumn Festival will run from September 11 to December 19 across 58 partner venues in Paris and the Île-de-France region, presenting 450 performances and offering over 175,000 seats. This year's festival brings together artists from 40 countries, highlighting its international reach and commitment to promoting diversity on the contemporary art stage and in global artistic narratives. Nearly 40% of the projects are created by invited artists participating in the festival for the first time, demonstrating a continued focus on exploration and exchange among different generations of artists. Dance, music, visual arts, and performance together form a program of 75 projects, showcasing its interdisciplinary nature. As a festival dedicated to creation, this year's Autumn Festival presents 23 world premieres and 30 French premieres. On September 26, 2026, a brand-new carnival will grace the streets of Paris! In the Pigalle district, artists, musicians, acrobats, and costumed characters will participate in a free, grand parade. This year, the Pigalle district will host its first "Pigalle Carnival," a large-scale art and participatory parade planned within the framework of the Montmartre Festival. The event will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 3 pm to 4 pm, with the parade route connecting Boulevard Clichy and Place Antwerp, passing through the 18th to 9th arrondissements. The inaugural event will be themed "Forest and Photographic Compositing." Street artists, dancers, circus performers, musicians, performers in plant or animal costumes, and costumed participants will gather in the parade, led by a horn team sounded by the "Winds of Pollot."

2026 marks the centenary of the death of painter Claude Monet (1840-1926). To commemorate this anniversary, the Musée de l'Orangerie will host an exhibition focusing on the relationship between Monet's works and time. In the 1870s, despite participating in only five Impressionist exhibitions, Monet was hailed as a leading figure in the movement. His work quickly became synonymous with "new painting" because it seemed to perfectly embody the characteristics of the Impressionist movement (often painted outdoors, with rapid brushstrokes, harmonious colors, and the capture of fleeting impressions), ultimately developing into one of the most unique and outstanding extensions of Impressionism. In the 1890s, the painter created series such as *Cathedral*, *Haystacks*, and *Poplars*, employing a method that almost dissected time, until the final *Water Lilies* series finally resolved the seemingly insurmountable problem of fragmentation, thus integrating the works into a continuous narrative. This exhibition will feature nearly forty paintings by Monet, primarily from the collections of the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée Marmondan-Monet, as well as loans from French and international public and private collections. It will focus on various stages of Monet's creative process, with a particular emphasis on the Water Lilies series. The exhibition will re-examine these works from a fresh perspective, employing objective methods and drawing on findings from multiple research fields. A century later, the significance of these works is more profound than ever before. The choice of the Musée de l'Orangerie as the venue is entirely natural, as it houses the magnificent Water Lilies series. As André Masson stated in 1952, this unique venue is akin to the "Sistine Chapel of Impressionism," witnessing Monet's final creations—paintings meticulously designed to resemble real-world environments, with the Water Lilies series representing the pinnacle of his work. The exhibition will explore the interpretation of the passage of time, focusing on the sense of accelerated time, the modernity of the artist's Impressionist period, the capture of fleeting moments through a series of works, and culminating in the Water Lilies series. Monet developed a painting style that responded to the challenges and changes of his time, exploring the concept of time from a perspective that was both personally felt and figurative. This perspective is reflected not only in his depictions of changing urban spaces and landscapes but also in his perception of time. In the 19th century, the number of clocks in public spaces increased, and time measurement became more synchronized. Simultaneously, the development of railways revolutionized transportation. Therefore, Monet's Impressionist period echoed this revolutionary shift in the perception of time in the 19th century and can be described as a period in which he developed a painting style that strived to fully capture the ephemeral nature of time.

At the invitation of the Musée national Picasso-Paris, Argentine artist Guillermo Kuitca (b. 1961) has created a site-specific work in the chapel of the Hôtel Salé. Since his intervention at the Venice Biennale in 2007, Kuitca has developed a new language, echoing the architecture, which the artist calls ‘cubistoid painting', in which a set of intersecting lines, like so many folds in the plane, is deployed directly on the walls, forming a new pictorial space.
