Sports & Fitness
Sports First Aid is a highly recommended course, supported by the Scottish FA and conducted by Andy Gow of A.D. Training and Development. This comprehensive course is not limited to a specific sport and is open to all sports enthusiasts. The course is free of charge for active volunteers from clubs and schools in the Perth & Kinross area.
During the course, participants will cover various crucial topics including the role of a first aider, legal responsibilities, and duty of care. Moreover, special attention will be given to first aid at sporting events, where participants will learn about incident assessment, calling for help, and ensuring personal safety. The course will also include practical sessions on basic life support, management of unconscious casualties, and the recovery position. Participants will gain valuable knowledge on how to handle situations such as vomiting, choking, and suspected heart attacks.
Furthermore, the course will provide specific information on managing head injuries, including facial injuries, as well as spinal injuries. Participants will also learn about soft tissue injuries, suspected fractures, and the management of bleeding injuries and shock. The course will extensively cover the management of wounds and burns, along with addressing medical conditions commonly encountered in sport, such as asthma, diabetes, seizures, angina/heart attacks, stroke, and environmental problems like heat and cold.
To ensure the highest level of competence, participants will be assessed through ongoing informal assessments throughout the course, as well as a formal end-of-course examination based on the criteria. The course will incorporate the latest European Resuscitation Council guidelines and will reference the new Scottish guidelines for managing concussion.
Sports First Aid will take place on February 3, 2024, at Dewars Centre, located on Glover Street, Perth, PH2 0TH. Tickets will go on sale on January 1, 2024, at 09:00. Don't miss this opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skills in providing first aid in a sports context.
