FreeWalkers is excited to join Stephen Dunn, the Biking Fireman, for this impactful event to promote the development of the Rahway Valley Railroad (RVR) Trail. This year, UCC’s usual route and schedule have changed. Instead of its usual 4-mile walk through the Union County Parks, UCC is doing a 1-mile walk along the Rahway Valley Railroad line to help clean up the Roselle Park stretch of land for its future transformation into a trail. This will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (gloves, bags, and pickers will be provided), followed by a reception from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Frenchy’s in Roselle Park. As such, FreeWalkers’ plan is now follows: 10:00 a.m. : FreeWalkers meet at Cranford Train Station to enjoy a 5.5 - 6 mile walk from Cranford to Roselle Park (by way of Kenilworth). We will enjoy a fun journey through Nomahegan, Lenape, and Black Brook Parks, taking a quick break at the Acme in Kenilworth for a bathroom/snack, and then continuing into Roselle park to meet up with the UCC folks. Approximately 12:00 noon : we hope to meet up with the UCC folks somewhere around Boy Scout Park for their ribbon cutting ceremony or en route back to Frenchy’s (where the reception will take place). 1:00 p.m. : Reception at Frenchy’s (please register via this link). https://ticketstripe.com/ctd-frenchys2025 ***For those of you who would prefer to enjoy a shorter walk with the UCC folks and assist with their cleanup, you are welcome to simply meet up with UCC at Frenchy’s at 11:00 a.m. where their walk begins (and we will either see you en route or at Frenchy’s). When complete, the RVR will connect from Summit all the way to Roselle Park, 7.3 miles of traffic free multi-use path. Let's turn out in force to push its development along! Partners: The East Coast Greenway Alliance is a non-profit organization developing a public multi-use 3,000 mile trail from Canada to Key West through New Jersey and New York. Arts Painting
This 6 week course will help both the beginner and artists with some experience of painting learn how to edit down a scene. Many artists state that they want to be more loose and free in their painting approach. This journey starts with learning to recognise what the viewer needs to see and what they do not need to see when making a picture. When you understand, even a little about this process, a whole new world opens up in painting where you are more free to play and interpret which can make painting a great deal more fun to do. Nothing will be too taxing and everyone will make mistakes….this is intended to be a playful and entertaining class. The class is led by Jason Skill, who spent years gaining the experience needed to effectively edit down images. Having that experience at your fingertips, helping you see how to tune and distil you paintings might save you many hours of work in the long run taking you work more quickly to the next level. What will you do on the course ? Look at some of the processes artists use to edit down their reference to a more distilled vision.Explore which elements are needed and which can be discarded when looking at a photograph.Create incredibly simple and effective images with the minimum of fuss.Learn the basics of lost and found drawing and paintingCreate a basic edited landscape working from your own reference.Create a basic still life image working from your own referenceDate: 3rd June - 15th July every Tuesday Time: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM Location: The Hut on the Green, Gosforth Central Park Cost: £95 for the full course Spaces are limited, so book now to secure your place and enjoy a friendly, hands-on class, and learn the art of watercolour!
