Private View - Mainly Multiples by Alan Burgess Saturday 16 November, 2pm - 4pm Free Admission Harlow Art Trust warmly invites you to the Private View of Mainly Multiples, Paintings by Alan Burgess, celebrating both his artistic career and 20 years of the Gibberd Gallery. At the opening of the Gibberd Gallery, the late Lady Patricia Gibberd acquired Alan Burgess’s watercolour ‘Arnision Crag Triptych’ for the Sir Frederick Gibberd Permanent Watercolour Collection where it still resides today. This exhibition will feature landscape works spanning across Alan’s career, including his signature multiple pieces. In addition, there will be previously unseen artworks. Alan earned his painting qualification at Colchester School of Art, where he won the landscape painting prize. After exhibiting at the Young Contemporaries in London, he balanced his passion for painting with a teaching career in painting, drawing, and art history. Since moving to Roydon, Essex, in 1968, Alan returned to landscape painting, working directly outdoors. His notable series, Fifty Great British Trees, has been exhibited at six venues, including the National Arboretum at Westonbirt. Beyond art, Alan has made significant contributions to tree conservation in his community, identifying rare trees and organising plantings. His work with veteran trees inspired a series of tree portraits, including a black poplar selected by the Tree Council as a Great British Tree. The exhibition runs from Saturday 9 November – Saturday 7 December. It is open every day except Sundays and Bank Holidays from 11am – 4pm.
