Join us for an enlightening symposium that delves into the fascinating crossroads of Public Sport History and Community Sport. This one-of-a-kind event, held both in-person at Macquarie University and virtually via Zoom, offers a unique opportunity to explore the rich scholarship and current projects in these fields. Our definition of Public Sport History encompasses the production, representation, and consumption of sports history in the public sphere, catering to diverse audiences and involving a wide range of practitioners and organizations. We are particularly interested in examining the significance of historical knowledge, education, research, and expertise outside the boundaries of academia. This symposium aims to foster connections and collaborations between academics, professional and amateur historians, cultural institutions, sporting organizations, and the media. We welcome reflective papers that critically analyze the processes, practices, representations, and understandings of Public History within community sports-related research projects or the broader public sphere of community sports history. Our areas of interest span oral history, public memory, sports history in the media and documentaries, commissioned histories, museums, cultural institutions, collaborations with community sports associations, and much more. This symposium promises a thought-provoking exploration of the intersections between Public Sport History and Community Sport, as well as an opportunity to engage in stimulating discussions on the current state of the field. Don't miss out on this invaluable event!
