Join the highly anticipated Speak Your Mind poetry night in Redditch, featuring the incredible talents of Nick Degg and Janine Booth. Hosted by the charismatic Jemima Hughes, this monthly spoken word event is brought to you by The Word Association CIC. The performance will start promptly at 7.00pm, so be sure to arrive at 6.30pm to secure your spot for the open mic session. While the event operates on a pay-what-you-feel basis, a suggested donation of £5 (£3 for students or unwaged) will help support the organization in bringing more top-quality performance poets to Redditch. Don't let finances be a barrier, as there are a couple of subsidized places available.
Nick Degg, a multi-slam winning poet from the Potteries, will captivate the audience with his heartfelt poems inspired by everyday life. With great compassion and affection, he explores his working-class background, evoking both laughter and tears. Janine Booth, a Marxist, trade unionist, and socialist-feminist, among many other roles, will also grace the stage. Known for her powerful performances, she will take you on a journey through her thought-provoking poetry. Jemima Hughes, a multi-slam winner herself, will serve as the host, guiding you through the unorthodox and ensuring that everyone has a chance to be seen and heard.
The event will take place at The Old Needle Works Foundation in Redditch, a venue dedicated to providing mental health support and learning opportunities for the community. Additionally, The Word Association CIC works tirelessly to promote underrepresented voices and celebrate the stories of marginalized communities. They publish anthologies of workshop participants' work and distribute them for free at various events. Don't miss out on this enriching and empowering evening of spoken word poetry.
