Latest Events in Brussels(July Updated)

Every two years, the Grand Place in Brussels is covered with a carpet of begonias. This 70m x 24m carpet is created by approximately 120 volunteers using nearly one million flowers in less than four hours. This year's event aims to promote dialogue between Belgium and Japan to commemorate the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Inspired by Katsushika Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," the design was recreated by Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugiyama and his art collective "Keimon" using over 500,000 dahlias. Another important new feature is that the exchange will feature a second carpet for the first time, inspired by hops—a symbol of Belgian brewing tradition.
