The Helsinki Festival, the largest arts festival in Northern Europe, is held annually in late summer. The festival aims to make art accessible to everyone. The program encompasses classical and world music, theatre, dance, circus, and visual arts, as well as a range of city events. The festival's artistic director is Johanna Freundlich. The 2026 Helsinki Festival will run from August 18 to September 5. Highlights of this year's festival include: the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra performing the opera *The Great Macab* with international soloists; a concert by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and renowned pianist Lin Yunchuan; and the play *Silence* performed at the Schaubühne Berlin. The Huvera Stage will host performances by artists such as Katie Melua and Camigno.
