Birmingham Apartments

We stayed in a one bedroom suite for 2 nights, on the fifth floor, with a 2 year old toddler. Overall our stay was ok, the apartment had what we needed, was well located and noise was minimal at night. Cleanliness was ok but could be improved eg stains on armchairs in living room, dust on shower curtain rail. Good range of items at breakfast. However a couple of issues we flagged to reception: At the breakfast buffet on our last morning, I filled up my toddler’s milk cup with milk from the fridge, before passing it to another guest, and then filling up his cereal with the same bottle. Luckily, before he’d drunk much of the milk, the other guest came over to tell me she thought the milk was off and had seen me fill up a sippy cup with it. My husband tasted it and confirmed it was sour and fizzy. I went to check the fridge and there were several bottles of milk that had gone past their clearly stated sell by dates, including one that didn’t have a cap on. I immediately told breakfast staff who had been moving bottles around with ample opportunity to check dates, and didn’t receive an apology. Later we told reception, they apologised but no remedial action offered. Had the other guest not informed me, my son and other guests could have been very sick. Staff need to be trained to check sell by dates on items at offer at breakfast, before putting them out for guests to use. We had another issue with the travel cot supplied, it didn’t have a proper mattress, just a folded up board. Reception did offer to bring up towels/sheets to fold and act as a mattress but I thought this was poor. We ended up buying a travel cot mattress for our stay. These combined issues affected our stay so can’t give more than 2 stars.

Good location, easy access, rooms were good but shower and toilet a bit small , Overall service was very good and helpful

01. The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting downtown (L). 02. They were extremely accommodating and allowed us to check in early at like 10am. We got to hotel super early and I didn’t wanna wait. So this was a big plus. The sevice was exceptional as well. Would definitely send a friend there. 03. I had a wonderful experience at the (HN). Every staff member I encountered, from the valet to the check- in to the cleaning staff were delightful and eager to help! Thank you! Will recommend to my colleagues!

This hotel is by far one of the most outstanding hotels in Birmingham city. The state of the art spa and gym most definitely contribute towards this factor; especially because of the intricate modern take to the architecture and interior design of the property itself. The service that I revived was top tier, the employees were always very polite and helpful you can truly see they are dedicated to providing memorable experiences to their guests. The hotel itself is beautifully kept with cleaner spotted 24/7 across the premises. !DEFINITELY RECOMMEND STAYING HERE!

No complaints - the hotel is walkable from the New Street Station and the room itself is expected from the crowne plaza chain. Spacious room and generous 2 double beds as standard. Only very minor complaint is that the buffet breakfast could have had a bit more choice with the hot food.

Going on a business trip, really not looking forward to it at all..booked the closest hotel to the venue not realising it’s actually connected..expected to be in a travel lodge-esque box…this hotel was so nice, I’d happily go back! Everything about it, polite helpful check-in staff, excellent room with everything I needed. Lovely staff in the restaurant, even allowed me to grab a pastry for breakfast even though I’d not paid for breakfast ( surgery precludes me chomping down on piled high buffet plates)….uber comfortable bed, fab shower, tea coffee facilities, iron and board, usb sockets in the room…in spite of what others may have experienced, the entire hotel was immaculately clean and tidy..with a somewhat unusual but really nice orange smell in the reception…would not hesitate to stay here again!!

Room was ok. Tap in bathroom is broken room 101 as well. Tv was not the easiest to switch on. Hot food in the evening was not hot. I had pan fried white fish with potatoes and broccoli. The fish was hot everything else was cold and under cooked. My husband went for fish chips and mushy peas. The mushy peas were stone cold. We both sent our meals back twice with the same issue. In the end we both had a burger with instructions please make it piping hot. It did come out and was ok. Breakfast my husband wanted porridge it came out with the consistency of wallpaper paste. 2nd go was better and had more body to it. The hot buffet breakfast was lukewarm at best. The Bain Marie’s were not maintaining the heat. I used to work as a chef and if the baked beans are cold then it’s all cold. I even put my knuckles against the heater under the Bain Marie’s and I could hold my hand there without feeling it was too hot that I had to remove my hand. They were using the temperature probes, but I saw that they stabbed it through the sausage to the tin below. So, the temperature reading is of the metal tin and not the core temperature of the sausage. The mushrooms were halfway cooked, bacon was cold and leathery and sausage’s inedible. We have stayed here before and had better meals but I get the feeling the chef is not understanding of what hot food is meant to be going in the food from Friday night and Saturday morning breakfast. We have stayed at other Marriott hotels with no issues. I think a review of staff training and equipment for the breakfast service is desperately needed.

Interesting hotel The positives - SUPERB location (on New St and clearly an old Railway Co hotel). Wonderful reception, marble halls and stairways. Staff superb too. In nice condition too. Bar was good (if a touch pricey) but i am nitpicking... Room was well decorated and nice bathroom, but stupidly warm with a very noisy radiator - again perhaps nitpicking.. For £170 a night though I would expect more than a standard double bed. Sure it was comfortable, but the bed was lost in the size of the room which could easily have had a bigger bed. I mean, come on, you get a bigger bed in a Travelodge.. We are both 6 foot to 6 foot four and the nights sleep was terrible due to the small bed.. oh, and also bad because of....... ROOM NOISE - we were on floor two facing New Street Station. I had TERRIBLE sleep due to trams, station announcements, delivery mopeds buzzing with deliveroo food, people shouting outside - I used to live in central London and have stayed in cities all over the UK with work.. I KNOW that city hotels can be noisy - but this was crazy - in fact the worst I can remember. At one point in the night I had to check if a window was open. Double glazing badly needed. Breakfast... very nice - but very slow. And charging £3 extra for eggs benedict which was a third of the size of my (included) full breakfast plate is cynical. Checkout - was told we had a discount code for the Grand Central car park at New Street - a nice touch.. got to the car park, went to pay - car park fee for 24 hours is £10.00 (to be expected in a city).. but hey - no worries.. we have a DISCOUNT CODE!!! (the new price? £9.50... Oh how we both laughed...) Still. Nice location. Not worth the asking price though. Nowhere near.

Only stayed in this hotel for one night but can't fault it at all. Double rooms are not massive but very comfortable and contain great little touches, The free chocolate and drinks provided are a touch that probably doesn't cost the hotel a lot but is a welcome relief from the profiteering vibe most hotels portray. The hotel also has a built in chrome cast to the TV so you can cast over your own Netflix or Disney plus shows. I would also like to mention that despite the fact it seems to cater for a significant number of guests every morning the breakfast is exceptional and brought on order. (a little tip is you can ask for a cappuccino in the morning rather than the tea or coffee initially offered). Hotel is also in a great location near to a lot of nice bars and restaurants and although it doesn't have parking, the train station car park around the corner is reasonably priced and secure. Would definitely stay again and recommend.

The staff were friendly and helpful during our stay. The rooms was very spacious but the decor was very out dated. Some minor repairs were needed throughout (shower curtain was loose). The room was very warm but there was no windows that could be opened. Had to pay £9 PP upon arrival for breakfast. If had known what i know now i wouldn’t have bothered. The breakfast was very poor. All of the cooked breakfast was kept in a warmer but was tasteless - bacon over cooked and dry, tinned Mushrooms 🤢, black pudding was burnt, eggs were like rubber. Overall very disappointing. The toast was ok although the toaster took about 20 minutes to toast the bread.
